When Malcolm wrote a new story in 2017, he had no name for it. All he had was his protaganist, Robin, who went on the wildest adventures in the world. From encountering mischievous orangutans in the Borneo islands to escaping the jaws of a Great White in the Bahamas, Malcolm’s stories are chock-full of imaginative ideas. Who doesn’t love good adventures, right? That was what he set out to do.

As a kid, Malcolm kept diaries, writing about his life, from the pizza man who almost fell down the drain to the circus he attended, where the acrobatic fire nearly singed his hair. Yup, that was how ‘dangerous’ life was. Diaries were his insurance.

Malcolm had a vision, which was to make reading accessible and engaging for younger readers. During his earlier school visits, many kids told him that they wanted books with pictures or comics. That gave Malcolm a lightbulb moment.

Remember his Robin story? Yup, he was going to integrate visuals into it and make it more exciting. After all, didn’t the National Reading Association previously wanted to encourage more kids to read? Glad to help.

Because Malcolm had an affinity for diaries since childhood—which, in fact, he almost always began his entry with a ‘Dear Diary’—he decided to use the word ‘Diary’ in the title of his story. The book would later be called Diary of a Rich Kid, which would eventually spawn more titles, including the ones published by Penguin Random House. Totally unbelievable. Beyond Malcolm’s wildest dreams.

After publishing Diary of a Rich Kid for many years, Malcolm is now focused on his brand new series, ‘Really Rich, Really Robin’, which follows the same protaganist, Robin. It’s a blessing for Malcolm to be able to carry that torch and continue on Robin’s adventures. With bolder imagination, of course. Always exhilarating.

What began as a seed has grown into a tree. Malcolm is proud of the tree he has grown, totally grateful to the incredible support that has enabled him to do what he loved doing most—writing.

Writing has, and will always be, his first love.

The story continues

Malcolm now carries that same torch into his newest series, Really Rich, Really Robin.
